Antioch students at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya

This photo illustrates the deep connection between the Yellow Springs Dharma Center and the Antioch Buddhist Studies Program in India. It was taken in October 2009, and shows Antioch students at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya with Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche and his students visiting from Ka-Nying Shedra Ling Monastery in Kathmandu. Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche has given teachings to the students on the Antioch Program for one week each year since 1984. He taught at the Yellow Springs Dharma Center in 1997 and 2007.

The Buddhist Studies Program attracts students from many colleges throughout the US to spend the fall semester in Bodh Gaya, India, to study Buddhism in the sacred place of its origin. Robert Pryor, the Director of the Antioch Buddhist Studies Program in India, is a founding member of the Yellow Springs Dharma Center. This program has been one of the most successful Antioch Education Abroad programs and celebrated its 30th year of operation in 2009. In 1999 Antioch University also initiated a second Buddhist Studies program in Kyoto, Japan and plans are now being made for a Buddhist Studies in China program.

Because of the close connection between the Antioch Buddhist Studies Program and the Yellow Springs Dharma Center, many Buddhist teachers from around the world have visited and taught at the center. These include: Sayadaw U Nyanineinda, Sister Dharmavijaya and Sister Molini, Chokyi Nima Rinpoche, Bhante Seelegawesi, U Hla Myint, Norman Feldman, and Professor Jan Willis.
